Karen died from breast cancer in 2004, after graduating from UCSC and a career as a professional artist for many years in Santa Cruz, then San Francisco.
She was very involved with Carnaval festivities (with a Trinidadian focus), and did quite a few personal art pieces, some of which are shown on the link.
I remember Karen from when we lived in Santa Cruz following high school. She was always a good person to be around. She illustrated a small book written by her boyfriend at the time that described how to buld bicycle wheels. The illustrations not only helped me build my wheels, but also gave the book an aesthetic quality that I still remember. Drawings of spokes and hubs and steaming cups of coffee.
