Donald H. Freiberg, beloved son, husband and father, passed away peacefully on Sept. 4, 2011 after a courageous fight with cancer. Born on Oct. 10, 1954 in Oakland, California, Donald grew up in Palo Alto, graduated from Palo Alto High School in 1972, received a BA Phi Beta Kappa from UC Berkeley in 1976, and obtained his law degree from UC Davis in 1986.

During 25 years of practice as a successful immigration lawyer (including having his own law firm for 22 years), Donald served on the Immigration and Naturalization Law Advisory Commission of the State Bar of California and was elected the Chair of the Santa Clara Valley Chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) twice. He was an instructor of immigration law at the Paralegal Program of Santa Clara University. He also served on the California Service Center/AILA Liaison Committee. Donald was a Certified Specialist in Immigration Law and regarded as one of the experts in the field.

Donald was a devoted son, father and loving husband. He always put his family first and loved his children and wife beyond anything else in the world. Donald enjoyed theatre, music, reading, and traveling. He was kind, gentle yet strong, and determined. He was generous to everyone. His sunny disposition and courage will forever be an inspiration to his family and friends.

Donald is survived by his wife Laura, daughters Jeanette and Katie, son Brandon, father Kenneth, sisters Jo Ann and Ellen, and brothers Andrew and Paul. His mother Jane preceded him in death. A celebration of Donald's life will be held at the Palo Alto Children's Theatre, 1305 Middlefield Rd, Palo Alto, CA 94301, Sun. Oct. 9, 2011 at 1:00 p.m.
